Linkin Park’s 'In the End' Music Video Achieves Over 2 Billion Views on YouTube

Linkin Park has done it once again: a milestone in their history as the music video "In the End" officially has crossed 2 billion views on YouTube. It was uploaded in October 2009 and features the original legendary lineup of the band: Chester Bennington, Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Joe Hahn, Rob Bourdon, and Phoenix Farrell. The visuals show the band performing on a giant Egyptian-style statue while CGI vines creep from the desert floor. Soaring above it all, a gigantic, whale-like behemoth adds a very surreal flavor to the whole scene. For me, it's Chester Bennington's raw emotional delivery of the unforgettable chorus -"I tried so hard and got so far, but in the end, it doesn't even matter"- which brings tears to fans worldwide.

The Lasting Impact of 'In the End'

The song 'In the End' is marked as one of the few definitive songs of a generation, released in 2000 under Linkin Park's momentous debut album Hybrid Theory. It reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making it their highest-charting single. Belonging to that rare breed of songs that could successfully merge rap and rock elements, "In the End," unlike so many rock hits from that era, did this in a way both innovative and accessible. In this way, the success of "In the End" ensured Linkin Park's presence in the history of mainstream music. Notably, the band had another song break the 2 billion views mark, the beloved "Numb," showcasing their global presence over the years.

Linkin Park’s Triumphant Return to the Music Scene

And, indeed, the new achievement celebration arrives at an interesting moment in the chapter of Linkin Park. After a gut-wrenching seven-year break following the passing of Chester Bennington in 2017, the surviving members decided to start a fresh journey. They have chosen to honor Bennington's memory by moving forward and not retreating. In September, the band (minus Rob Bourdon) constituted an official comeback with new lead vocalist Emily Armstrong, along with drummer Colin Brittain. That November, the album in question, From Zero, was released and met with fans' and critics' enthusiasm. Linkin Park is currently active in the world, touring with concert dates stretching to this November in support of the new record to show their enduring passions and evolving sounds.
