A Green Day-Inspired Comedy Film is in Production

Live Nation Productions is developing a new road trip comedy titled New Year's Rev, with all three Green Day members involved as producers. According to Variety, filming takes place in Oklahoma, drawing inspiration from the band’s early years of touring in a van.

Plot and Cast Details

The film follows three friends who mistakenly believe they have secured a spot to open for a Green Day New Year’s Eve concert in Los Angeles. Fueled by their excitement, they embark on a cross-country journey, facing unexpected challenges and life-changing experiences.

Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust take on the lead roles, portraying the young trio on their ambitious road trip. New Year's Rev is directed by Lee Kirk and features a supporting cast that includes Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, both known for The Office, as well as Ignacio Diaz-Silverio and Keen Ruffalo, son of actor Mark Ruffalo.

Production Team and Release Updates

In addition to Green Day, New Year's Rev is produced by Ryan Kroft and Michael Rapino of Live Nation Productions. As of now, no official release date has been announced for the film.

Billie Joe Armstrong Reflects on Van Tour Days

Green Day’s frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong, shared his thoughts on the film’s inspiration, recalling the band’s early touring experiences: “Van days rule. You will drive all night on no sleep then play a show for 10 kids in a basement of a friend of a friend’s house 50 miles east of anywhere you’ve ever heard of. But you’ll do it again the next day, and the one after that. Because you’re doing it with your bandmates who become your family, and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever known.”

A Tribute to the Passion of Young Musicians

Ryan Kroft of Live Nation Productions emphasized how New Year's Rev captures the essence of aspiring musicians chasing their dreams. “With incredible guidance from Green Day, the film tells the story of young artists driven by long nights, endless miles, and the electrifying rush of performing live. Brought to life by a stellar cast, it pays tribute to the magic of live music.”

Green Day’s Potential Glastonbury 2025 Appearance

Speculation is growing about Green Day headlining Glastonbury in 2025, with open slots still available for this year’s festival from June 27-29. The band is scheduled to tour Europe this summer, which only adds to the rumors of their potential performance at Worthy Farm. Last year, Green Day released their 14th studio album, Saviors, which earned a four-star review from NME. Critic Andrew Trendell described it as their “best since American Idiot”, praising its rebellious energy and enduring spirit.
