Anthony Narvaez Diamond-etched Disaster
like a flood rushes in without warning
the mood, the alcohol, the aggression
it fell in light night fall, in the dark
infra-red bodies by candle light
and I was taken, both taken and thrown
but when diamond earrings sparkle in the night
I’ll hold my breath until it sinks
move out of the way when things come crashing
a turn for the worse, to turn away
from nights cursed with stars and innuendos
and lips mutter words that didn’t exist before
words of regret, but apologies are for liars
I only wish to have met you sooner
so I’d have known you’d be wasting my time
