Bill Staines A Christmas Lullaby
Hush my baby, go to sleep
The world keeps on a'turning
The snow is drifting down and deep
The midnight lamp is burning
And I'll sing to you so soft and low
Of a wonderous night so long ago
When the world stood still, and don't you know
A little baby child was born
And people came from all around
Shepherds, kings and princes
From far off fields and tiny towns
Following the voices
Of angels high in winged flight
Behold, a babe is born tonight
His word shall be of love and light
From this first Christmas morn
Son of God and Mary, bright
Prince of peace and giving
Jesus, guide us through the night
And shape us with your living
And so they prayed, while in the sky
A shining star was hovering high
A beacon borne to a traveler's eye
Along the weary way
And soon the sun was rising there
And a single bell was ringing
A valiant voice for all to hear
And joyous was it's singing
Praises rung on every knell
"Peace on Earth, I wish you well."
So tolled the tiny little bell
On that first Christmas day
Oh, but that was oh, so long ago
Yet still that bell is ringing
I can hear it in the voices of the meek and of the mild
And still that star is shining bright
And the light that it is bringing to this world
Is in the eyes and in the heart of every child
So, hush my baby go to sleep
The world keeps on a turning
The snow is drifting down and deep
The midnight lamp is burning
And I'll sing to you to soft and low
Of a wonderous night so long ago
When the world stood still, and don't you know
Christmas was a child
