David Bowden Light Load
Come you weary travelers
Heavy laiden from your toil.
Come you who fight the ground
the religion of your soil.
You can bend your body backwards,
You can wrestle any storm,
But your muscles can't prevail
What grace preforms.
'Cause I am what you're not
So lay your burdens down, my love.
Yeah, I am what you're not
So take my light load and give me your heavy lot.
Come you lost and broken,
Those beaten up by law.
Come you never-resting
Curl up with my light call.
You can sleep in my surrender,
You can doze in my relief.
Just sell all your good works,
And follow after me.
'Cause I am what you're not
So lay your burdens down, my love.
Yeah, I am what you're not
So take my light load and give me your heavy lot.
Come you weary strong men
Come you tired giants
Come you weakened warriors
Come you worn Golaiths
Come you christened Christians
Incriminated by the lists you listen to
That make you feel unlisted in The Lamb's comprehensive
Novelistic epic your souls feel fatalistic to.
Or if I could put it more simplistically,
This message is for you who feel your salvation
Is based on your good and bad deeds.
I'm calling to these Sunday champions.
You know, those who try to earn
What has already been granted them.
Those who try to make amends
Where there's already been intercession.
Those who try to pray, read, and attend themselves
Up into my heavens.
I'm talkin' to those who think
Their salvation is based on their successes,
When the fact is,
If you are in Christ Jesus sin and death
Have lost their claim to you,
And there can be no repossession.
So before you start to think that your next good deed
Will make me pleased with you,
Remember that while you were my enemy,
And before you were anything,
I was already in love with you.
So come you good works slaves,
Come lay down your ways.
Though you stood not a chance
Come in, in my good news dance.
'Cause I am what you're not
So lay your burdens down, my love.
Yeah, I am what you're not
So take my light load and give me your heavy lot.
