Elric Walker One Of Us Must Change
I met her outside of the Last Chance Saloon
She was looking at me with a smile
I said, "See ya later"
She said, " I hope that it's soon.
Why don't you come back and stay for awhile?"
I said, "Well honey, I'm bound for the ramblin' road
To roll a gambol on the wide open range."
She said, "Well, you're headed West then,
and I'm headed South...
So obviously, one of us must change."
I kicked over my Harley and I rode into the night
But I kept hearin' her voice in my mind.
When I got the highway I made a u-turn at the light
I just could not leave her behind.
Now I'm sittin' alone in this smokey old bar
Thinkin' life's just a big tragedy
You can wander this world
You're still just right where you are
Maybe it's more like a divine comedy...
She was walking alone on the outskirts of town
I rolled up and I said "Hey, how ya been?"
She smiled and she laughed and she looked at the ground
She said, "I didn't think I'd ever see you again."
I said, "I was rememberin' some business
I left unfinished down South
I thought maybe I might just re-arrange."
She said, "That's funny, I was thinkin' about
Maybe travelin' West."
I said, "So obviously, one of us must change."
The moon came up full
Lit the road up like the day
The stars hung like jewels in the sky
She held on to me close, she said,
"Let's go, all the way!"
I said, "All right baby" and I never asked 'why'
Now I'm sittin' alone in this smokey old bar
Thinkin' life's just a big tragedy
You can wander this world
You're still just right where you are
Maybe it's more like a divine comedy
When we got into Memphis
She said, "I got to see this old friend
I hope you don't mind, I'll be back in awhile..."
I said, "Now what's this about?
There ain't no need to pretend.
We've come this far baby, what's one more mile?"
She said, "I got to go with this guy
And take a ride 'neath the sky."
I said, "Honey, why are you acting so strange?"
She said, "I got to be free!"
I said, "I want you to stay here with me!"
She said, "So obviously, one of us must change."
Then she smiled and she laughed
And she looked at the ground
She said, "I always will love ya-ya know...
And it's breakin' my heart
That here we must part
But honey-baby I got to go..."
Now I'm sittin' alone in this smokey old bar
Thinkin' life's just a big tragedy
You can wander this world
You're still just right where you are
Maybe it's more like a divine comedy
