American Dream Lyrics

Grace Minnick American Dream

In 1928, Great-Grandpa John sailed across the sea with his family.
Great-Grandpa John sang in a bar and waited tables to keep his family on their feet.
When his son jg was only fourteen, he made him get a job.
Jg worked at Wendt's Butter and Egg Stand on the west side of Cleveland.

Great-Grandpa John made a little bit of money, and
His son jg made a little bit of money, and
His son Mark made a little bit of money, and
They've motivated me.

Here's the American Dream,
Working hard to provide what your family needs.
Welcome to the land of the free –
Free to earn as we please.

In 2010, my oldest brother introduced our family to the love of his life.
We know that love is love, and love is never here to make a judgement or criticize.
They worked so hard that their home of Seattle recognized their love in 2012,
And on their wedding day, we sang a happy song because their love made it through hell.

Grandpa jg fought for what he believed in, and
His son Mark fought for what he believed in, and
His son Chad fights for what we believe in, and
They've motivated me.

Here's the American Dream,
Working hard to provide what your family needs.
Welcome to the land of the free –
Free to love who we please.

Sweet Grandma Esther married Grandpa Clinton in 1951.
Grandpa Clinton was a small-town preacher with a daughter and two sons.
The couple moved to many different churches across the Midwest.
A few years later, sweet Grandma Esther gave birth to baby Alice.

Alice has fire. She owned the 70's.
Alice has confidence. She makes men weak at the knees.
Alice is smart. She doesn't need a man, and
Alice knows God will hold her in His hand.
Alice is the most inspiring woman I know.
I'm sure glad that Mark also thought so.

Sweet Grandma Esther knew that women can do anything, and
Her daughter Alice knew that women can do anything, and
Her daughter Grace knows that women can do anything, and
That's why I'm me.

Here's the American Dream,
Working hard to provide what this country needs – Love.
Welcome to the land of the free –
Free to do anything.
