James Miller Band Thank You
Thankyou (Lyrics by Kristen Henderson)
--------------------------------------------------
I promised someway
you’d share the same marquee
didn’t know how, didn’t matter to me.
I have no idea who knows you,
whose gotten hold of this myth,
but you’re a legend since the 50’s
only it hasn’t gone public yet
Your as sexy as a sax in blue notes,
and clever as Costello
carving lyrics from bone.
Sure you toyed with writerly genius
which has a fleeting cache,
but you’ve been saving lives for years
and that’s more than any
Pulitzer could say.
And then there’s the matter of paint
how it runs through your body
like blood…but it ain’t
the only card up your sleeve
just one ace in a hand
of so many,
you keep playing to raise the ante.
There’s so much to say about other heroes,
How their music explodes
the darkest shadows, how their process takes us away
and drops us off home, but this song’s about you my glorious
unknown.
And thank you, thank you
for everything.
promise someday
share the same marquee
didn’t know how, didn’t matter to me.
