Sleeping With The Light On Lyrics

Michael McGuire Sleeping With The Light On

SLEEPING WITH THE LIGHT ON
© Electric Babylon Music Author: M.M.

It’s a world ruled by distress, you rearrange your future using
hindsight, a bunch of failures trying to measure success, and we each
have our own version of what is right, and I’ve been burned by trust,
and I know I’m not the only one, but guilt is just like rust, if only the
bullet could fire the gun.
Blame just fits any fool that will wear its crown, trust is a babysitter
that burns your house to the ground, yeah we’re all in this alone,
sleeping with the light on.
You’ve got to wonder what to do with friends like these, they’ve seen
the movie so they judge the book by its cover, but at lest you can get
rid of your enemies, they love your wife as much as they would love to
f*** your lover, for every stargazer that seems so indifferent, but he
wants that star for his own planets sun, but you cannot forgive the
innocent, the bullet cannot shoot the gun.
What’s the difference between the man on the stand and the jury,
what’s the difference between the killer’s need and the victim’s fury,
yeah we’re all in this alone, sleeping with the light on.
Afraid of the pain that we milk from the pleasure, we grow in
increments to small to measure, till we’re moving in light years away
from each other, till we’re so far away all we can do is move further.
He goes to bed thinking just to wake up dreaming, anonymous virtue
and dead action scenarios, we start out believing just to end up
scheming, and everybody is sure of what nobody knows, and every
petty judge rewrites the moral of the story, the fashion of accident
becomes the fashions design, and we butcher the details just to make
them gory, and when we’ve ignored every boundary we then draw the
line.
I guess we’ll spend eternity in this limbo of sustained objections,
ironically afraid of innocuous content more than killer infections, yeah
we’re all in this together, living in the naked weather.
Why must we be so alone?
