Hourglass
Murrey Mclaughlin
Somehow I'm still an optimist,
Though you might think it's strange.
Though we can still make changes,
Before we're forced to change.
But I see the sand run out,
Through the hourglass.
I swear I don't remember,
That it ever ran this fast.
I swear I don't remember,
That it ever ran this fast.
I don't pray for the departed,
They are the lucky ones.
I pray instead for all of those,
whose futures yet to come,
Trying to make a better world,
Such as we've never seen.
Trying not to get run over,
By a global greed machine.
Trying not to get run over,
by a global greed machine.
What is it that we really need?
Is it bright and shiny stuff?
Is it all about the money?
Don't we ever have enough?
This self-perpetuating thing,
The human race has made,
Won't do us any good,
When the memory of us fades.
Won't do us any good ,
When the memory of us fades.
