Paul Heaton Last Day Blues
We were dreaming of houses we'd built
with the money we'd make
Dreams so real our muscles had forgotten to ache
Just listening to a radio
whilst treading on grapes
Ain't my usual choice of keeping in shape
And thats the reason we get ourselves sun-burnt
is we're oh-so greedy for sun
Sick of all the time, spent under shadow
of someone else's white bum
And the reason we make these holidays
1 or 2 weeks and not 3
is we're scared during last day blues
we'll get dragged like kid from the sea
Scared during last day blues
we're dragged like kid from the sea
Scared that the extra week may expose
asylum seeker we could easily be
We could easily be
We could easily be
We were picketing gates of a place
where we'd been given the sack
Where anyone with half a brain would never want to go back
About to light the cocktails
we had to use to attack
When a diferent cocktail made us lose our tack
And the reason I stood out in the winter
until I turned blue and I cried
Was I thought it'd make, make me feel warmer
with the person waiting inside
And the reason we make these holidays
1 or 2 weeks and not 3
is we're scared during last day blues
we'll get dragged like kid from the sea
Scared during last day blues
we're dragged like kid from the sea
Scared that the extra week may expose
asylum seeker we could easily be
We could easily be
We could easily be
The exhaustion numbed out minds
and lowered the stakes
Till we forgot the original reason we planned the escape
And the dreams that never seemed
any good when awake
Utopia's only Utopia
if your willing to wait
