Richard Buckner Were You Tried & Not As Tough
Were you tried & not as tough ("It was fine,
but, not enough.")?
“... & all I've lost, I'll leave (I leave) to you
& most of my days. I'm inside, & under, &
over it all & wonder if the everyday would be
just too much to take. The windows glow for
me (tonight anyway), though.
"I was lost, but, I was right. & I was always
wading out to you."
We all want to be sure. But, the light was dis-
tracted, "... & I dropped out through the night!"
It comes in (close) & the years collect. “We
pined the dues & did our best. I was young, but,
I'd forget that it wasn't what I wanted, then. &
when I'd leave I'd see it all through you, but, the
stories never stayed."
"I hope you're digging in & breathing fine. I'm
staying out. I know my way (falling closer. everyday)."
