Ryan Macellaro South Portland Maine
south portland maine is where she stands
a clipper ship of faithfull hands
who tells my tale with confidence
exactly as I say
i could never say
you'll let the world turn you away
proclaim im full of sailor's dreams
continue on your way
well the wind was hard that day
ten leagues at sea from Portland Maine
all my men were keeping watch
as storm came in our way
19 men stood on the deck
to keep us from a wreck
and catch a sight of Spring Point Ledge
to guide us back to Land
twas there we saw a shape
come rolling through the waves
that serpent of a fearsome length
60 feet at least is said
first he was cruising the same way
with us right for south portland maine
with all my men i watched in awe
the spead that beast maintained
the serpent leaped and raised its head
then he plunged back to the depths
covered in dots of white
a fearful sight he was
we thought it all was done
we thought the monster had it's fun
but then it raised itself bofore our bow
taller than our sails
we wished to turn away
avoid hitting the snake
we turned the wheel to no avail
the wind must have her way
ship rammed into his chest
and serpent raised it's ugly crest
he fell it's neck onto our deck
collapsing all the sails
five men were left to stand
3 said this is the end
hell sink our ship down to the depths
to join his salty grave
just then the snake did move
rolled off the ship into the blue
took those 3 men down with him
leaving but one shoe
the storm came to an end
a crew from port was sent
they found us and they towed us back
but wouldnt hear a word
south portland maine is where she stands
the clipper ship with broken masts
and dented bow was not enough to
prove we weren't fools
south portland maine is where she stands
it's not the heart that makes the man
it's faith in things you haven't seen
i know you doubt my words
