Slim Dusty Family Of Man
Born but never tired on the New South plains,
Son of lots of man but sire unknown,
Yester yearly plenty came to East Gippsland,
Oh the Bairnsdale hills of green became his home,
In country where they raise the best of cattle,
Where the rivers run down to the lakes an' to the sea,
Oh, the tall bay colt was running like the southern
wind,
But none could know the champion he would be.
The richest winner of our time,
Family of Man,
Flyin' bay from Bairnsdale,
Family of Man,
Over half a million and he’s winning races yet,
Oh, Family of Man will be a name we won’t forget.
A two year old he trained and raced in Melbourne
And surely didn't set the track on fire,
Some could see the power and the speed were there,
But could he stay the distance e'er he’d tire,
But steadily and surely, he was comin' good,
His trainer knew a winner was the Bansdale Bay,
He won the Australasian Derby held in Perth next year,
And Family of Man was on his way.
The richest winner of our time,
Family of Man,
Flyin' bay from Bairnsdale,
Family of Man,
Over half a million and he’s winning races yet
Oh, Family of Man will be a name we won’t forget.
You don't want to hear the names of all the races,
That he's won and lost against Australia's best,
Racing weight for age he’s with the greatest,
An' at Winning Stakes he's beaten all the rest,
When his racing days are over, he'll be goin' home,
Where it all began for the Bairnsdale Bay,
The first half million winner it’s the record proud,
A record that no-one could take away,
The richest winner of our time,
Family of Man,
Flyin' bay from Bairnsdale,
Family of Man,
Over half a million and he’s winning races yet,
Oh, Family of Man will be a name we won’t forget.
Family of Man will be a name we won’t forget.
