Stephen Duffy A Man Without A Star
It started to rain as I reached
For your hand in the precinct
If you need reassurance:
I love you, I need you
But don't be afraid if your life
Isn't going the way that you want it
Then she turned and said 'You're a dreamer
An underachiever, a might have been'
Man without a star
Stunned by her outburst
I let go her hand in the precinct
I've tried very hard not to deceive you
I've written of love as it is, as I know it
(So much for writing)
The threatening page, the words of love in writing
Somehow they seem binding, almost afraid
Man without a star
Ideas translated into music
And lost in translation what I meant to say
The sentimental chastised dreamer sighs
Rubs his eyes, casts his nets again
I walked away and I started
To dream of Elysium
Reality dwindled, the real world escaped me
Who can relate to another man's fate?
We're alone in our quandary
A vesper song swung out of the cloisters
Sliding down the banisters, the mystery
Man without a star
