Victor Ly Hometown Hero
He enters the world with this light in his eyes
Feet on the ground, arms reaching for the sky
Big plans to do good, nothing should go wrong
A smile on his face, his heart beats to a song
He comes from a place where he was acclaimed
From a time when everything he did brought fame
Not too long ago, he decided to leave his town
And on that day, people cheered and gathered around
An old guy shouted, 'Go out there and do your best!'
He was happy the day that he started traveling west
The city lights guide him on his yellow brick road
The world on his shoulders, oh, what a load!
Everyone he meets, he tries his best to help
He only cares for others, not for himself
But time after time, riddles leave him confused
Problems stump him, he gets tossed and abused
Can't understand it, he thinks he's destined for this
His job is to help, isn't that why he exists?
I meet him one morning when I look in the mirror
I can barely recognize myself, oh, the horror!
The smile is gone, black circles surround my eyes
I am bent backwards; should I be surprised?
What happened to all of my hopes and dreams?
Nothing that I try to do works out, it seems
There was a time when I actually helped, so long ago
I realize I can't save the world, I'm only a hometown
